Navis NavDP onboard the largest fire fighting vessel

7 February, 2019
The largest Fire Fighting vessel “Branddirektor Westphal” in the Hamburg fire-fighting fleet has passed sea trials.

Navis NavDP control system has shown comprehensive station ability during the firefighting operations simulation.

Crew was impressed with easy vessel motion control and less than one meter positioning accuracy with all three Fi-Fi monitors working. Fastest algorithms, specific function and modes of NavDP extend vessel’s ability either during the Fi-Fi activities or Rescue and Technical assistance.

During the NavDP operation training provided by Navis specialists after the sea trials the crew became convinced of simplicity and user-friendliness of systems touchscreen interface.

About the vessel:

With a length of 43 m and a moulded beam of 10 m the new vessel, fully packed with state-of-the art fire fighting equipment. The vessel offers enough space for 4 crew members and up to 32 firemen. Driven by 2 main engines with 500 kW each, high power Schottel rudder propellers and two bow thrusters, it will reach a speed of 12 knots and it can be operated reliably even under DP mode in the port of Hamburg under all weather conditions. Also the vessel has been designed to meet the German “Blauer Engel” environmental requirements and its exhaust gas treatment system ensures that the vessel will meet the most demanding exhaust emissions restrictions in place.
