Dynamic Positioning Maintenance Training Completed at Navis Engineering Oy

Navis Engineering Oy recently conducted a comprehensive 3-day DP Control System Maintenance Training Program for Technical Superintendents and Chief Engineers from TSM – Thomas Services Maritimes at our training facilities in Vantaa, Finland.

The training was based on the official DP Control System Maintenance Training Program developed by Navis Engineering for technical personnel working with Dynamic Positioning systems.

Designed for maritime technical professionals, the course combines theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on practice using the NAVIS NavDP 4000 test bench and simulator environment. The program covers DP system architecture, hardware components, interfacing, diagnostics, troubleshooting procedures, and maintenance operations.

Practical Technical Training Focus

During the training, participants worked directly with:

  • DP system architecture and operational principles
  • Thruster, sensor, and PRS interfacing
  • DP Shell Service Utility and logging systems
  • Hardware components and cabling
  • Remote support configuration
  • Practical troubleshooting on a live test bench

The course also included simulated fault scenarios and a practical exam focused on solving real technical issues under operational conditions.

Building Real Operational Confidence

The training program is specifically designed to help technical personnel develop:

  • Independent diagnostics and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong understanding of DP system architecture
  • Confidence in handling onboard technical issues
  • Familiarity with NAVIS service procedures and software updates

At Navis Engineering Oy, we believe that hands-on technical competence is essential for safe and reliable vessel operations. Through simulator-based learning and real-system interaction, participants gain practical experience that can be directly applied onboard.

We thank the team from TSM – Thomas Services Maritimes for their active participation and professional engagement throughout the course.
