Navis DP technology with Marex 3D by Aventics

Navis Engineering Oy is proud to introduce finalization of the first stage in cooperation with Emerson. Emerson (NYSE: EMR) is a global technology and engineering company providing innovative solutions for customers in industrial, commercial, and residential markets. In the subsegment of Machine Automation, Emerson’s Aventics ship control solutions have convinced customers all over the world. In combination with state-of-the-art DP technology from Navis Engineering Oy, Emerson’s Aventics ship control Marex 3D gains additional functions for more safety and comfort in operation.

The Navis DP-controller integrated with the Marex 3D joystick control system has been tested with great success onboard the Sunseeker Predator 72 last month.

Navis Engineering Oy and Emerson have come into agreement to develop a DP-controller as add-on to the Marex 3D joystick control system to bring intelligent automatic control to any boat. Even if already installed onboard the vessel, Marex 3D system can be extended with the DP features after a small update, simply by mounting the compact DP-controller box.

The Position Hold and Virtual Anchor modes showed precise heading keeping, positioning at desired point of location and vessel positioning inside a preset radius during the sea trials. The Virtual Anchor mode provides not only significant fuel consumption savings and reduced thrusters wear, but also allows the Captain to take a break from constantly watching over the boat’s position and manually operating the levers.

After remote fine-tuning of the system by Navis specialists the Customer was very satisfied with the test results of the whole system performance and quality of positioning. “Thanks to the efficient cooperation between Emerson and Navis Engineering Oy in the project phase, the commissioning went smoothly and the custom-designed DP controller has impressively proven its abilities”, says Navis’ COO Petr Opekunov.      

The system’s outstanding performance was confirmed during a sea trial onboard Azimut’s latest Magellano yacht. Powered by 2 MAN engines V12-1550 and auxiliary drives the 25-m-yacht showed excellent maneuverability in all joystick modes.
