Navis Engineering aboard hybrid icebreaker tug VILJA

Navis Engineering Oy is proud to announce successfully handing over of literally the most innovative and advanced Dynamic Positioning control system with DP-0 configuration in our history.

The point is that the vessel is equipped with the innovative hybrid propulsion system that includes two diesel main engines, shaft generators/motors and batteries for energy storage. The special algorithms in DP control system developed in close cooperation with Shipyard and propulsion system supplier specialists supports fuel efficiency with smart Power monitoring and blackout prevention function in all operating modes of the innovative hybrid propulsion in automatic and semi-automatic modes.

About the vessel:

VILJA vessel is the TundRA 3600-H class icebreaking design by Robert Allan Ltd for Port of Luleå (Sweden), this new tug is fully customized for operational requirements built by GONDAN Shipbuilders. The vessel is designed to perform icebreaking – it is capable of breaking 1 meter of ice at a speed of up to 3 knots- ice management, escort, ship-assist, coastal towing, fire-fighting and navigation aids service duties. This 36-m tug with a hull structure that exceeds Finnish-Swedish ice class rules and has high environmental standards is certified by Lloyd’s Register. The vessel had been delivered to the Owner last month.
